Dance: Celebration of pure joy

29th April is celebrated as International Dance Day. Whether it is street dance on the dhol beats or any choreographed dance, we all love to shake a leg. From the ancient ages, dance always has been a part of human lives. It is clearly visible in the cave carvings from the stone age.

Since our birth, we are so much into the movement. Everybody loves to see a baby doing the happy dance moving hands and feet in excitement. It is like a primary movement infused in human bodies.

When the words cannot describe the emotions, dance swirls in with movement bringing pure joy.

What more does dance offer?

Creativity :

Anything can be expressed through dance and there is no correct way to express unless you are dancing on a grand stage for a competition or a show. It helps to open the box of creation and ideas to explore.

Release of emotions:

Why do you feel happy when you surrender to the music and dance your heart out? It is because dance is a form of exercise and it releases endorphins. This relaxes the stress and eases out the pain.

Mind body connection :

Dance enhances the connection between mind and body. Be it in coordinated movements of different body parts or be it moving in rhythm, dance works as a therapy for both mind and body.

Awareness :

Dance is moving with the breath in a space with focus, like meditation. It improves body awareness and makes you feel good about your own body.

Dance is more than physical activity or entertainment.

“Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” – Martha Graham

It allows the soul to express through movement giving a vulnerable space for the body.

So, get in your dance shoes and shake a leg. Let that body dance on the rhythm of your heart beat.

Unbox that pure joy and dance like nobody is watching.
